1.) Any tips on how to get started using fountain pens?

Fountain pen users have always loved how graceful precisive they can write with this type of pen. 

The first thing you will notice about the fountain pen is that it has nibs instead of the circular tip that you will mostly see on pens nowadays. And it can be a bit tricky writing with fountain pens especially if it is your first time using it, it may require a bit of practice and time before you can get used to it. 

The benefit of having a fountain pen is that even if you run out of ink you can easily have it refilled and still you will be able to keep the pen for a lifetime, as long as you take care of it and not let it go bad. 

The first thing you will need to practice is how to properly hold the pen when you are writing, the barrel of the pen should be resting on your middle finger, while the rest should be prompt on the writing material you are using, also keep in mind that the more you get better withholding the pen the less stress there will be on your hand when writing. 

The next thing to learn is how to properly place the nib on the paper, the pen should be angled at a 45-degree scale and you should feel where the pen will start to write smoothly and not skip as it goes. 

After knowing how to properly hold the pen, the next one is how to start gliding and writing, you only need to apply gentle pressure on the pen so as you will not lose the perfect spot when writing with the fountain pain. 

And as the saying goes, practice makes perfect and if you are one that is patient and like to keep things classy and sleek when it comes to writing, the fountain pen will be your best friend all throughout your writing days. 

2.) How do I get the ink that accidentally went to my clothing?

One thing that you should always remember when trying to get rid of ink from your clothes is for you not to immediately try to wash them off, this can actually worsen the situation you are trying to fix. 

The first fix that can get you out of this dilemma is by using a hairspray, yes, you read that right a hairspray can save your day in this one. What you need to do is to spray generously at the affected area on your clothing that has the stain. 

Then once it sets and it is fully drenched with the hairspray you need to blot it and get the excess ink that will try to come out from it with tissue paper, or any absorbent material or cloth. Then proceed to wash the garment the way you would normally wash it. 

The next quick fix on this list is by using milk, yes, another unconventional fix, but this works. Get some milk from your fridge and boil it down and let is simmer for a few minutes then soak the clothing that has ink in it with the hot milk for a couple of hours, then proceed to rinse it with water and wash it as you normally would. 

The last hack on our list is by using vinegar or if you have 90% alcohol proof within your premises then this should also work for you, firstly you will be needing 2 pieces of clean white cloth then put one under the affected garment then soak the other white cloth with the vinegar or alcohol whichever one you may have, then wash it normally. 

3.) I just got the pen, but it seems to be not working and writing the way it should? 

If you just got yourself a new pen that doesn’t seem to be working the way it should be can be frustrating, especially if you purchased a pricey pen that claims to not do what it is doing right now. It can also be cumbersome to ramble yourself up just to find another pen to use. 

A great way to get your new pen to start writing is by trying to shake it up with a bit of force to get the ink up and running. The way the pen was stored previously before you purchased it can also be a factor as to why it won’t write at first. 

4.) I have a pen that won’t write but there still seems to be a lot of ink left in it, what’s the best way to get it writing again?

Some pens need to be stored upright so that the ink can always flow freely when you start writing. You also need to keep in mind to never let your pen’s cartridge be exposed to air as this can contribute to the ink drying up, and you surely don’t want that happening to your newly purchased pen. 

It is also a must to always keep your pen’s cap or nib closed to help with the prevention of the ink drying up. This can also help avoid clogging.

Here are some ways you can help your pen start-up; 

a.) The first method you can try is by blowing into the pen’s cartridge if it’s open and if it doesn’t have a cap.

b.) Try to scribble on a piece of paper and draw dots until you can see that the pen’s ink is starting to flow freely.

c.) You can also opt to apply an ample amount of heat to the pen’s nib to help unclog the ink that’s preventing the pen from writing. You can also try exposing it with boiling water—just be careful about only exposing the metal tip of the pen because the heat can ruin the barrel of the pen especially if it is made of plastic material.

d.)You can also try to write your pen on rubber surfaces as the clog can grip on rubber surfaces and can help get rid of the dried ink. You can also try writing on any fabric you have as it can also work in the same way.

e.)Another option you can try out is to snap on the pen’s cartridge to shake the ink up, it is also a good idea to have paper underneath the pen just in case it starts leaking, but if done in the right way you shouldn’t have to worry about the ink leaking.

4.) Is it necessary to get a waterproof pen?

The water resistance of a pen can be an optional but great feature to have with a pen. Some pen tends to completely stop working once submerged into the water—and you really don’t know when you will accidentally have your pen get wet with any type of liquid or go into the water. 

Waterproof pens also have the ability to write on wet surfaces or slightly damp paper. This can be perfect for teachers who might need to work outdoors at times. As even with the weather being unconditional you can always count on your pen being able to write even in wet conditions. 

You can also rest assured that even when you accidentally spill coffee or water on your writing material, your important notes and other written items will not smudge or disappear just because it got exposed to water. You won’t end up having to rewrite everything again!

5.) Is it okay to fly with a pen? 

This question might pop up in your mind especially if you have the tendency to travel every once in a while. It is important to know if you can safely travel by air with your pen with you, or if it can be allowed by TSA as there are times where you might be restricted to bring some items along with your travel. 

Still, different airports can also add items that cannot be allowed to be on board with you during your flight. But generally, most airports and the TSA do allow an individual to travel with a pen as long as it is not relatively similar to any of the prohibited items listed under the TSA guidelines. 

But one type of pen might be barred for you to bring along, and these are tactical pens. As some tactical pens are constructed to be a self-defense tool at the same time and this can be deemed by the TSA or Airport management as some form of weapon which is commonly not allowed for you to bring along your travel. 

You should also keep in mind that some pens do have a tendency to explode mid-flight, and this tends to happen with rollerball pens. The reason why is because the way the rollerball pens are constructed cannot handle the intense pressure especially in high altitude areas.
